Reader in Law (Teaching & Research)

About the Role
The Reader will make significant contributions to the intellectual life of the School and teach and research in the fields of Public Law (including human rights) and/or criminal law. They will deliver high quality teaching which enhances student experience, as well as contributing as a senior academic leadership within the School.

The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is a full-time, permanent appointment, with a start date as soon as possible but at the latest by 1st January 2027.

About You
You will have a PhD in Law, or relevant professional qualification, or equivalent professional experience, and a track-record of high-quality research in the field of Public Law/Human Rights/Criminal Law, including publications in national and international journals, with clear and ambitious plans for future research. You will have evidence the development and delivery of research-led teaching and assessment at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level and an understanding of student support. A higher education teaching accreditation is desirable.

The School of Law is one of five schools in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and has two organisational units: the Department of Law and the Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS). Established in 1965, the Department of Law runs thriving undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and has a well-established international reputation for innovative research.
