About the Role 

We are seeking an organised and detail-oriented Finance/Accounts Assistant to join our finance team. Working as part of a supportive and experienced group, you will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, processing a wide variety of financial transactions, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the department's financial operations. 

This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain broad experience in university finance administration and to develop your professional skills in a dynamic and supportive environment. 

Main Responsibilities 

  • Process supplier invoices, credit notes and expense claims; match invoices to purchase orders; reconcile statements; and resolve supplier queries.
  • Review and close purchase orders, liaising with suppliers on deliveries, returns and discrepancies.
  • Raise and issue customer invoices, collect and record incoming payments, and perform credit control activities.
  • Run and review financial reports (UFS, COGNOS), exporting and analysing data to support departmental reporting.
  • Transactional processing: Create routine purchase orders in line with requests and established processes. Where queries are raised, resolve anomalies between purchase order and invoice, liaise with suppliers with regard to goods received, coordinate returns. Review and investigate open purchase orders and other month-end and year-end reports.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and documentation for audit purposes, ensuring data integrity across supplier databases.
  • Act as the first point of contact for departmental financial enquiries, providing advice and guidance to staff on financial policies and procedures.

About You 

You will have:

  • Experience of working in an accounts or finance environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and familiarity with financial reporting tools.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • An A-level/NVQ Level 3 qualification (or equivalent level of experience).
  • You will also demonstrate initiative, accuracy, and a commitment to providing high-quality financial support in a busy office environment.
