Research Associate (Honorary Resident Doctor) in Respiratory Medicine

Cambridge-GSK Translational Immunology Collaboration (CG-TIC)

We seek a highly motivated Research Associate (Honorary Resident Doctor) to contribute to cutting-edge research that will provide novel insights into the pathogenesis of respiratory disease, with a particular emphasis on collaborative work with the Cambridge-GSK Translational Immunology Collaboration (https://www.med.cam.ac.uk/cg-tic). This is a new interdisciplinary partnership between the University of Cambridge, Cambridge University Hospital and Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Trusts and GSK, bringing together expertise from these partners.

The Research Associate (Honorary Resident Doctor) will conduct high-quality research as part of a clinical cohort research study that is using endophenotyping and laboratory studies to investigate respiratory disease mechanisms in Interstitial Lung Diseases. In the clinical cohort research study, the research associate will provide clinical support, covering a weekly research clinic and bronchoscopy list. The lab studies will include integration of multi-omics and clinical data and will involve close collaboration with colleagues across CG-TIC and at GSK.

The position is based in the Department of Medicine. The chosen candidate will work in a dynamic, supportive team under the direct supervision of Dr Jenny Dickens and Dr Gauri Saini (Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust), who will supervise the clinical research study. Further mentorship will be provided by Prof. James Nathan and the CG-TIC Respiratory Mechanisms of Disease research team.

The successful applicant will also have the potential option to undertake a PhD within this post. The higher degree will be based within the Department of Medicine.

Applicants should have a medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) and necessary clinical training experience in respiratory medicine. Experience of collaborative working will be extremely valuable.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.

This appointment requires an Honorary Clinical Contract.
