Senior Research Contracts Officer – Grade 8

Hours of work: Full-time - 35 hours per week

Tenure: Permanent

Hybrid Working: Minimum requirement of 40% on Campus, with 60% considered desirable where possible

The University of Liverpool is seeking to recruit a Senior Research Contracts Officer. This senior role includes line management responsibility and offers the opportunity to join a supportive and experienced team providing high-level contractual and legal advice to academic and professional services colleagues across the University.

The University is a member of the prestigious Russell Group of research-intensive universities. Supporting stakeholders to achieve their research objectives whilst managing legal and commercial risk is a key aspect of the role. In addition to a strong understanding of contract law and legal issues facing a university, the position requires excellent judgement, diplomacy and stakeholder management skills.

You will manage a substantial and varied portfolio of research-related agreements, including negotiating, drafting and reviewing contracts with research funders, collaborators and commercial partners. You will also line manage and mentor junior members of the team and provide legal and contractual advice to University committees and governance groups where required.

As part of an established and highly regarded Research Contracts Team, you will play a critical role in ensuring contracts are negotiated and concluded efficiently, enabling research activity to progress whilst protecting the University's interests. You should possess a sound understanding of contract law, experience of successfully negotiating complex agreements and an appreciation of the legal and regulatory issues affecting the higher education sector.

You will be articulate, commercially aware and able to build effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You  will demonstrate excellent analytical skills, sound judgement and exceptional attention to detail.
