Overall Purpose of the Role

Sitting within the University’s Development & Alumni Engagement Team, the Alumni Engagement Officer will work alongside the Alumni Engagement Manager to establish and maintain programmes that meet the needs of over 200,000 DMU alumni who reside throughout the UK and across the world.

The post holder will have a pivotal role in developing and enhancing the alumni engagement programme in line with our strategy. The position will focus on alumni engagement and lifelong connection with the University through communications, volunteering, events, networking and professional development opportunities.

The role will support Graduate Outcomes and the implementation of the communication and engagement plan, strengthen relationships between alumni, students and the University, and contribute to the continuous improvement of engagement activity.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative and relationship-focused individual who is passionate about building meaningful connections and creating engaging experiences for alumni. You will be an excellent communicator with the confidence to work with a wide range of stakeholders, from graduates and volunteers to academic colleagues and external partners.

The ideal candidate will have experience in alumni relations, stakeholder engagement, events, communications, marketing, volunteering or a similar engagement-focused role. You will enjoy developing and delivering projects, managing multiple priorities and using your initiative to identify opportunities that strengthen relationships and increase participation.

You will have strong written communication and digital content creation skills, with experience producing engaging communications across a variety of channels, including email, social media and websites. An understanding of customer relationship management (CRM) systems and confidence using data to inform decision-making and evaluate success would be advantageous.

Highly organised and detail-oriented, you will be comfortable planning events, coordinating volunteers and maintaining accurate records while ensuring excellent customer service. You will be collaborative, proactive and adaptable, with the ability to build positive working relationships across the University and beyond.

Most importantly, you will share our commitment to fostering a lifelong connection between De Montfort University and its global alumni community. You will be motivated by the opportunity to make a positive impact by creating opportunities for alumni to support students, graduates and the wider University through volunteering, mentoring, networking, professional development and advocacy.
