At our ARU Writtle campus, we specialise in animal, environmental, agricultural and horticultural courses, for learners aged 16 to 18, adult learners, undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

About the Role:

ARU Writtle College is seeking an FE Lecturer in Sports Coaching and Development who will deliver high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment across BTEC Level 2 and Level 3 Sports Coaching and Development programmes, with a particular emphasis on sports coaching and physical education.

The role involves inspiring and supporting learners to develop their coaching, leadership, and practical performance skills while achieving outstanding academic outcomes. The successful candidate will create engaging learning experiences, provide effective pastoral and academic support, and contribute to curriculum development, quality assurance, and enrichment activities.

Working closely with industry partners, schools, sports clubs, and colleagues, the lecturer will play a key role in preparing learners for progression into higher education, apprenticeships, and careers within the sport, coaching, and physical education sectors.

You will hold a GCSE English and Maths or equivalent to level 2, vocational qualification at NVQ level 4 or equivalent and appropriate endorsed teaching qualification (or required to commence studies within 1 year of employment).

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality lessons aligned to BTEC Sport specifications: Level 2 Diploma in Sport and Level 3 Foundation & Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development.
  • Teach across Level 2 and Level 3 programmes, including units such as Developing Coaching Skills, Health and Wellbeing in Sport, and Anatomy & Physiology.
  • Provide academic and pastoral support to learners, ensuring they achieve their full potential.
  • Develop innovative, engaging, and industry-relevant learning materials.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety in practical sessions and off-site activities.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, quality assurance, and continuous improvement within the department.
  • Monitor and track student progress, attendance, and achievement, maintaining accurate records.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with schools, sports clubs, National Governing Bodies (NGBs), employers, and community partners to enhance learner opportunities.
