Contract: The appointment is initially offered on a fixed-term basis from early September until 31 December 2026. There is a good possibility of the contract being renewed until late June 2027.

Location: Shenyang, China for up to 16 weeks per semester (duration determined by operational requirements), with the remaining time in the UK.

We are seeking to hire two EAP Tutors to join our small English teaching team which delivers credit-bearing in-sessional English modules on a transnational undergraduate partnership in Biomedical Engineering, jointly delivered by the University of Dundee and Northeastern University in Shenyang, China. Students complete the first three years of the programme in China before progressing to Dundee for their final year, graduating with a dual BEng (Hons) degree. Launched in 2019, the programme combines expertise from both institutions and became the world's first international joint undergraduate biomedical engineering programme to receive full accreditation from the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

During teaching periods, UoD staff are based at the Northeastern University Hunnan Campus to the south of Shenyang city. The campus is a pleasant place to live and work with good sports facilities, numerous canteens, grocery stores, an excellent library and plenty of open spaces.

Principal duties:

  • Teach up to 20 scheduled academic hours per week
  • Mark student work and provide feedback
  • Hold individual and small group tutorials as required
  • Contribute to collaborative work, including course and assessment development
  • Invigilate and mark exams

Must be able/willing to:

  • Teach in an engaging, student-centred way
  • Follow a syllabus and use provided lesson materials, whilst also being able to adapt materials to students’ needs
  • Work collaboratively in a small team
  • Work some evenings and the occasional weekend, both of which would be kept to a minimum
  • Work an agreed number of regular office hours outside of scheduled teaching in order to assist with other departmental duties
  • On rare occasions, cover classes when colleagues are absent

Essential qualifications & experience:

  • CELTA
  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline
  • Substantial experience of teaching English

Desirable qualifications & experience:

  • DELTA
  • Experience of teaching English to students destined for university study or to those already in undergraduate study
  • Experience of/an interest in working with STEM students

  • The expectation is that the postholder would reside in the UK when not working in China.
