Lecturer (A) in Education

Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer in Education (Professional Practice) from qualified and experienced second-level teachers in the subject areas of Religion, Music, Spanish, CSPE/Politics and Society and/or Irish. Ideally, candidates will be qualified to teach two of these subjects.

The School of Education at University of Galway has a long tradition in the education and professional learning of teachers and school leaders dating back to its establishment in 1915. Amongst other offerings, the School provides initial teacher education (ITE) at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. This position will be primarily linked to the Professional Master of Education (PME), with the post-holder also contributing to other programmes. The post-holder will have relevant experience and expertise to contribute to and/or lead in professional practice, pedagogy, professional studies, and curriculum and assessment as well as in one or two specific teaching subjects. They will also engage in school placement and practitioner research project supervision. The post-holder will lead or support the coordination and administration of relevant modules.

A relevant teaching qualification and experience teaching at second level are essential. The successful candidate will also have research experience and the capacity to contribute to research activities in the School, including projects to PhD level. A completed PhD is desirable.

Salary: €65,552 to €104,573 p.a. (applicable to new entrants effective from January, 2011)This appointment will be made on the Lecturer scale in line with current Government pay policy) and in accordance with the terms and conditions of the University’s Remuneration policy.
