About this role

The School of Applied Sciences is seeking to recruit a Senior Lecturer in Microbial Genomics to support our undergraduate and postgraduate Biological and Biomedical Science programmes.

The post holder will deliver excellence in teaching on both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, together with other related academic roles, including module leadership, and supervision of student projects.

The School of Applied Sciences runs BSc (Honours), MSci, MRes and MSc programmes including in Biomedical Science, Biological Sciences, Environmental Science, Forensic Science, and related areas. Research within the School is supported by the Centre for Biomedical Research (CBR), the Institute of Biosensing Technology (IBST), the Science Communication Unit (SCU) and the Centre for Sustainable Agri-Food and Environment (SAFE)

About you

Candidates will be expected to have a PhD in a relevant subject aligned to this area and experience as a Senior Lecturer and as a module leader.

Preference will be given to applicants who can evidence excellence and expertise in Microbial Genomics teaching and research.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to teaching and assessing on our Biomedical and Biological sciences programmes. Candidates who can evidence a good understanding of research and practical skills, the theory and practical application of genomics and bioinformatics will be preferred. The post holder will be expected to work with IT Services to maintain the UWE Bioinformatics servers. Experience of teaching Virology, to complement the Microbiology teams working in this area, is desirable.

The successful candidate is likely to be able to demonstrate experience of devising and delivering stimulating teaching and inclusive assessments; they will demonstrate the ability to lead modules well and successfully supervise student research projects.

The successful candidate will be supported in this role by an experienced mentor

This is a permanent, part-time post working on a 0.8 FTE contract.
