Histology Technician

The UCL Cancer Institute is a leading centre for cancer research, bringing together more than 400 scientists dedicated to developing more effective and less harmful cancer treatments. About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Histology Technician to join the Pathology Translational Technology Platform (TTP). Working within a small and collaborative team, you will provide high-quality histology support to researchers across UCL, contributing to projects that advance cancer research and improve patient care.

Key responsibilities include:

• Tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and cryotomy
• Histological staining and slide scanning
• Tissue microarray construction
• Laboratory operations, data management, and quality assurance
• Supporting the development of molecular pathology techniques, including immunohistochemistry, nucleic acid extraction, and spatial transcriptomics

This role offers excellent exposure to a diverse research environment, working alongside students, clinicians, postdoctoral researchers, and scientists. It is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in biomedical sciences, histopathology, or translational research.

Interviews will be held in person at the UCL Cancer Institute, London, between 14–18 September.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

• A BSc in Biomedical Science or a related discipline
• Experience working in a research laboratory environment
• Significant hands-on experience in microtomy and cryotomy
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and accurate record-keeping
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• The ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment
• Confidence using databases and spreadsheets for sample and data management
• An enthusiasm for developing skills in histology, molecular pathology, and digital pathology
