Main duties and responsibilities
The Directorate
The Strategic Planning & Insight Directorate supports the delivery of the Empowering University Strategy through an integrated approach to business planning. Leading the annual strategic planning cycle and providing timely, relevant and actionable management information to support evidence-based decision-making across the university.
Be at the heart of the intelligence-led planning that shapes our university’s future. We are seeking an analytical and collaborative Planning and Performance Analyst who will help turn complex information into clear, actionable insight, supporting strategic planning, performance monitoring and informed decision-making across DMU.
The Role
Working with the Planning and Performance Managers, you will help to develop, communicate and continuously improve the university’s approach to planning and performance.
You will bring together quantitative and qualitative information from a range of sources, translating it into meaningful reports, forecasts and advice for colleagues and senior leaders.
• Support the development and delivery of DMU’s strategy, monitoring progress against benchmarks, key performance indicators and Faculty and Directorate plans
• Contribute to the annual planning cycle, student number planning, intake target setting and the monitoring and forecasting of student recruitment performance
• Research and monitor developments across the higher education sector, assessing their potential implications for DMU’s medium- and long-term plans
• Support the analysis and interpretation of league tables, regulatory requirements and external submissions
• Work with teams across the university to identify reporting and analysis requirements, improve the accessibility of management information, and support the testing and validation of new reports and dashboards
• Help prepare reports and papers for key committees, while supporting cross-university projects and the continued development of DMU’s risk management framework
Ideal Candidate
You are an analytical and inquisitive professional who can interpret complex information, identify the story behind the data and communicate your findings clearly to a wide range of audiences.
Essential Skills & Experience: A first degree or equivalent experience, together with experience in a similar or related role. Experience working in planning, performance or management information within higher education or another complex organisation, and a strong track record of using data to support planning, forecasting or performance monitoring. Confident in analysing quantitative and qualitative information, producing accurate reports and using Microsoft Excel for analysis and reporting.
Desirable Skills & Experience: Prior experience of data visualisation techniques and tools such as Power BI would be advantageous, alongside an awareness of risk management and business continuity principles.
Personal Qualities: A collaborative and self-motivated colleague with strong verbal and written communication skills. Able to explain information clearly, build productive relationships across different teams, manage competing priorities and contribute positively to the continuous improvement of planning and reporting activity.
Company Culture: A commitment to championing DMU’s values of dignity, respect, equality, environmental sustainability, health and safety in every aspect of your work.
