Main duties and responsibilities
De Montfort University (DMU) is committed to delivering world-leading research that makes a positive difference to society, culture and the economy. The Research Assistant plays a key role in supporting the University's preparations for REF 2029 by coordinating research assessment activities, including the management of research outputs, impact evidence and associated REF data and processes.
Working closely with academic colleagues, Unit of Assessment teams and Professional Services staff, the postholder will develop and maintain effective systems, processes and reporting mechanisms to support REF readiness across the institution. The role will coordinate evidence-gathering and external output review activities, provide expert guidance on REF requirements, and ensure that accurate and robust records are maintained to support strategic decision-making and submission planning.
The postholder will contribute to the continuous improvement of REF-related processes, deliver training and guidance to stakeholders, and work collaboratively across the University to promote a culture of research excellence and assessment preparedness. By coordinating projects, engaging stakeholders, and managing data, this role will help the University succeed in future research assessment exercises.
The Directorate operates in a hybrid working environment. The postholder is expected to spend some time working on campus and may choose to work from another location, such as home, where business needs allow, supporting a healthy work-life balance.
