Prof Caren Norden's research group at the Gurdon Institute is seeking a motivated individual to join the lab as a Postdoctoral scientist.
The overarching aim of Caren Norden's research group is to explore how the retina forms across scales and across developmental stages. The group combines cell and developmental biology with theory and computer science to explore how local cell behaviours are integrated across space and time to produce robust tissue-level organisation. To this end, we use zebrafish as a primary model that allows for sophisticated in vivo imaging followed by quantitative analysis. One particular emphasis of the group is to understand cell and tissue rearrangements that lead to retinal formation from optic cup formation to final neuronal lamination. We are particularly interested in the interplay of cellular and tissue-wide mechanisms.

We are looking to recruit highly motivated scientists with strong investigative skills. Experience with microscopy and in vivo imaging and image analysis will be an advantage. Knowledge of developmental biology, particularly zebrafish as a model system, will be useful.
We seek a candidate with a PhD in developmental or cell biology, biophysics or a related discipline. Experience in live imaging, image analysis or zebrafish work is an advantage, as is a quantitative background. Prior work on the eye is not required.
