ScotGEM students are enrolled on a distributed and accelerated 4-year MBChB Programme which uses an innovative curriculum, designed to develop doctors interested in a career as a medical generalist within NHS Scotland. The programme is tailored to meet the current and future needs of the NHS in Scotland and focuses on rural medicine and healthcare improvement. GCMs are the anchor clinical educators for the Programme, providing students with high-quality role-modelling and clinical mentorship, and supporting the development of professional values and behaviours in practice.
All those taking on a GCM role in any of the years will be expected to be enthusiastic advocates for ScotGEM, promoting its ethos to students and amongst colleagues in order to positively promote rural and/or generalist practice. More specifically, GCMs will be expected to:
