Teaching Fellow (Environment and Sustainable Development) within International Development

Salary: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £36,636 to £46,049 with potential progression once in post to £48,822

This is a fixed-term teaching fellow (Environment and Sustainable Development) post within the International Development Department. The post is for the period 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027. The post holder will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, assessment, supervision, student support and relevant departmental administration. Main responsibilities will include the following:

• Convene and manage a UG2 module, Development: The Environmental Challenge. Current topics include relationship between growth, sustainable development and planetary boundaries, and case studies of areas including waste management, air pollution, water resource management and forest management.
• Deliver lectures and seminars on a PGT module, Environment and Sustainable Development. It currently covers topics including political ecology, environmental justice, environmental economics and climate change.
• Additional contributions to PGT seminar teaching and marking in line with a 0.5 FTE workload as determined by departmental requirements.
• Prepare teaching materials, support student learning, provide feedback and contribute to assessment and moderation in line with departmental requirements.
• Liaise with colleagues to ensure coherent module delivery and appropriate coverage of theory, methods and case material.
• Contribute to personal tutoring and to the supervision, marking and moderation of Postgraduate dissertations as determined by departmental requirements.

Person spec

• A PhD in a subject area relevant to international development, political science, international relations or a closely related discipline.
• Relevant teaching experience and scholarship within subject specialism. 
• Proven ability to devise, advise on and manage learning. 
• Skills in managing, motivating & mentoring others. 
• Relevant teaching experience and scholarship within the subject specialism.
