What makes Goldsmiths unique?
Goldsmiths is a world-renowned university that has a reputation for rigorous and innovative academic work; creativity has long been our hallmark. Academic excellence and imaginative course content combine to make a place where creative minds can thrive.
About the department
FM Services sits within the Estates & Facilities Directorate and delivers a wide range of essential facilities support across the Goldsmiths campus. The department provides cleaning, portering, postal operations, waste management and janitorial services that ensure our buildings and spaces remain clean, functional and welcoming for students, staff and visitors.
Our teams play a key role in the daily running of the University, supporting academic activity, events and campus operations with a strong focus on service quality and customer care. Working collaboratively with colleagues and partners, FM Services offers a dynamic, hands‑on environment where teamwork, reliability and pride in maintaining Goldsmiths’ spaces are central to our mission.
About the role
The FM Supervisor plays a key leadership role within the Facilities Management Services, ensuring the delivery of an excellent, efficient, safe, and customer focused cleaning, janitorial, and portering service across the University.
The post holder is responsible for supervising and coordinating the day-to-day work of frontline FM Cleaning Operatives, ensuring service standards, compliance, training, and performance expectations are consistently met. This includes ensuring that all cleaning, janitorial, waste management, and portering duties are completed to required standards, resolving operational issues, responding to emergencies, and supporting continuous improvement.
The post holder is expected to demonstrate strong leadership, technical knowledge, high professional standards, and the ability to work flexibly across a multi functional team supporting a large and complex estate.
About the candidate
The ideal candidate will bring proven supervisory experience within cleaning, facilities or support services, with the ability to lead, motivate and organise teams across a busy and varied campus environment. A confident communicator with strong customer service skills, they will work collaboratively with colleagues, contractors and stakeholders to ensure services are delivered safely, efficiently and to a consistently high standard.
They will demonstrate a strong understanding of cleaning and portering best practice, health and safety requirements, COSHH and operational compliance. Highly organised and proactive, they will be comfortable using CAFM systems, Microsoft Office and audit tools to manage workloads, monitor performance and respond to operational priorities. The role suits a hands-on professional who leads by example, solves problems effectively, maintains close attention to detail, and supports the delivery of a safe, welcoming and well-presented environment.
Benefits
We have generous benefits which include an agile working environment, 22 days’ annual leave plus six paid closure days (four at Christmas and two at Easter) plus all Bank Holidays, great transport links, a defined benefit pension scheme, support for professional development and a broad range of wellbeing initiatives such as staff choir, running club, staff networks and creative writing classes.
