POSITION DESCRIPTION   

The Department of English in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the field of Global Anglophone Literature and Postcolonial Theory. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027.  

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS 

Candidates must have earned a PhD in English or a closely comparable discipline with a specialization in South Asian, Middle Eastern, Caribbean, and/or Black Diasporic Literature and postcolonial theory, or a related area, by time of appointment or shortly thereafter. Expertise in any of the following fields would also be advantageous: creative writing, digital humanities, environmental humanities, poetry and/or drama. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated record of excellence in both teaching and research. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths.  

Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in research, which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals or other venues meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, the writing sample, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing.
