The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Directorate of Governance, Legal and Vice-Chancellor’s Office in a senior operational leadership role at the heart of the University. Reporting to the Director of Governance, Legal and Vice-Chancellor’s Office, the Head of Operations (Governance and Executive Support) will lead the day-to-day delivery of high-quality governance operations and executive support services, ensuring that the University’s senior decision-making bodies and executive leadership are supported effectively, professionally and with sound judgement.
The postholder will help to ensure that the University upholds governance best practice and aligns with the CUC Higher Education Code of Governance. They will oversee governance operations for Council, Council committees, Senate and other senior meetings, as well as related governance activity such as governor recruitment, induction, development, effectiveness reviews and skills audits.
The Head of Operations (Governance and Executive Support) will also play an integral role in enabling the Vice-Chancellor and members of the University Executive Board to deliver the University’s academic mission. They will lead the Executive Assistant team, coordinate the flow of business through the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, and ensure that senior leaders are effectively briefed and prepared. The role will also support the smooth and efficient running of weekly University Executive Board meetings.
This role would suit an experienced governance, executive support or professional services leader who is highly organised, credible with senior stakeholders, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced and sensitive environment. You will bring excellent judgement, discretion and communication skills, together with the ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities and build trusted relationships across a complex organisation. You will understand the importance of maintaining appropriate lines of accountability between Council and the Executive.
