About the job:

This post involves working with a multi-disciplinary team conducting epidemiological analyses of large datasets of routinely collected health records. This research aims to generate important evidence regarding the surveillance, treatment and follow-up of women diagnosed with gynaecological cancer and precancer.

This project will involve using data from the Northern Ireland Endometrial Hyperplasia Register, held within the Northern Ireland Cancer Registry, to conduct epidemiology studies investigating trends in the incidence of endometrial hyperplasia and risk of progression to endometrial cancer. This project will also utilise routinely collected health records from the UK to conduct pharmacoepidemiological studies investigating trends in the use of hormonal treatments and other medications among gynaecological cancer patients and evaluation of clinical outcomes (such as survival). Other population-based datasets, such as the UK Biobank, will also be used for the conduct of large cancer epidemiology studies investigating risk factors for gynaecological cancers.

The post holder will enhance skills in project management and epidemiological analysis of large health datasets. The post will also involve liaising with collaborators (including clinicians and patient representatives), acquiring health datasets, overseeing data linkages, coordinating meetings, preparing regular summary reports, taking the lead writing academic outputs and research dissemination, as well as supporting postgraduate students.

About the person:

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:

• Have or be about to obtain a relevant PhD in epidemiology, public health, statistics or related subject.
• Significant, recent research experience and skills relevant to this project, e.g., database management, statistical analysis, working with, and analysing large datasets.
• Experience of project management, delivering research outcomes, and proven ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment as part of a research team.
• Experience of conducting cancer epidemiological studies using routinely collected health records, e.g., UK cancer registry records, UK NHS health records.
• Evidence of experience of statistical software using, for example, Stata.
• Evidence of publication of cancer epidemiology or related studies, commensurate with the stage of career.

This post is available for 8 months. Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
