The School of Engineering is looking to appoint a Early Stage Marie Curie Researcher to undertake high-quality research within the MSCA Doctoral Network POSEIDON (https://poseidon-dn.eu/). The postholder will be assisting in developing the next generation of ecofriendly offshore windfarms and closely collaborating with academic and industrial partners across the EU to deliver the scientific and training objectives of the project.
The successful candidate will undertake innovative research focused on addressing key challenges in sustainable offshore wind development, contributing to improved understanding, design and performance of offshore wind infrastructure and its interaction with the marine environment. They will also have opportunities to develop their research skills through collaboration across the POSEIDON network, international secondments and dedicated training activities.
This post will have heavy emphasis on data science & ML programming applied to large environmental datasets (geospatial, weather, tide).
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career researcher to gain international research experience, develop a strong academic and industrial network, and contribute to the transition towards more sustainable offshore renewable energy.
About You
A MSc or equivalent in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering, Ocean/Offshore Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Naval Architecture, or a closely related discipline
You should evidence the ability to deliver independent research, and strong potential for high-quality research, with a developing profile and an understanding of relevant methods and techniques. Strong numerical and computational skills, plus proficiency in at least one of: Python, MATLAB, or C++, particularly for data analysis, automation, or machine learning implementation is essential, as is previous experience with computational mechanics and laboratory and physical tests for soil characterisation.
You will be a collaborative and motivated individual, able to work effectively with partners across Europe and willing to undertake international secondments. Strong communication skills (in English), excellent IT proficiency, and the ability to deliver work on time are essential.
