Cryostorage Facility Manager

About the Role
This role will be responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the Cryostorage Facility, supporting researchers, tissue banks, and clinical trial teams through the secure storage and retrieval of biological samples. Working as part of the laboratory management team, developing and maintaining operational systems, monitors facility performance, and ensures compliance with relevant regulatory and governance frameworks, including Human Tissue Authority (HTA) standards and Good Clinical Practice (GCP). The role requires a strong focus on service delivery, quality management, health and safety, and collaboration to support the research and clinical activities of the institution.

About You
You will be a highly organised, self-motivated professional with a BSc degree (or equivalent technical qualification). You will possess substantial biomedical research laboratory experience, including responsibility for line management, tissue handling, health and safety compliance, and handling cryogenic liquids. The ability to work independently, while maintaining a proactive and collaborative approach, is essential.

The Barts Cancer Institute (BCI) is a Cancer Research UK Centre of Excellence whose work aims to transform the lives of those with and at risk of cancer through innovative research in the laboratory, in patients and in populations. It is one of six institutes within The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FMD) BCI is internationally renowned in many areas of cancer research and it combines ground-breaking basic research with the expertise of clinicians and clinician scientists from the Centre for Experimental Cancer Medicine and the Barts NHS Trust to achieve improvements in cancer patient care. BCI is also a partner in the CRUK City of London Major Centre (together with UCL, Kings and the Francis Crick Institute) which is a Centre of Excellence in Biotherapeutics. BCI is committed in supporting and developing future cancer researchers through its extensive postgraduate training.

The post is based at the Charterhouse Square Campus in London. It is full time (35 hours per week), permanent appointment ((subject to annual funding review) with an expected start date of 1/10/2026. The starting salary will be Grade 4, in the range of £38,419-£46,618 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of London Allowance.
