We are seeking an exceptional Head of Maintenance to lead the delivery of maintenance operations, asset management, hard compliance, and minor works projects across our diverse College estate. 
Reporting to the Head of Estates, you will lead a skilled team comprised of employed team and various contractors and oversee planned and reactive maintenance programmes, compliance systems, service contracts, budgets and asset management strategies. You will play a key role in preserving and enhancing our historic buildings while supporting the College's operational and sustainability objectives.

The Role

As Head of Maintenance, you will:

•    Lead and develop the Maintenance Department, providing clear direction, support and professional development to your team.
•    Manage planned preventative maintenance programmes and responsive repairs across the estate.
•    Oversee minor works projects from planning through to successful completion.
•    Develop and maintain a comprehensive asset and compliance register.
•    Ensure full compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements relating to building maintenance, fire safety, water systems, asbestos management and health and safety.
•    Manage maintenance budgets, procurement activities, supplier relationships and service contracts.
•    Lead on maintenance-related sustainability initiatives and energy efficiency improvements.
•    Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, external contractors, consultants, local authorities and heritage bodies.
•    Support the planning and delivery of major capital projects in partnership with the Head of Estates.
•    Manage emergency response arrangements and ensure effective out-of-hours maintenance support.

About You

We are seeking an experienced maintenance and estates professional with a proven track record of leading maintenance or construction teams within a complex property environment. The successful candidate will have strong technical knowledge of building maintenance, compliance, and mechanical and electrical systems, alongside experience managing budgets, procurement activities, service contracts and projects. You will be highly organised, IT proficient, and an effective communicator, capable of building strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. A practical, solutions-focused approach, sound decision-making skills, and relevant trade qualifications or equivalent experience in construction, property or building maintenance are essential.
