About Us

Join the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences at King’s College London and play a key role in supporting innovative medical device research that improves patient care. As Senior Operations Officer, you will work across two closely connected teams, MAISI, a national facility for the Manufacture of Active Implants and Surgical Implants, and the Medical Engineering Quality Team. These teams deliver quality, regulatory, and manufacturing support to help translate cutting-edge medical technologies from concept through to clinical evaluation.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a collaborative, fast-paced environment at the forefront of healthcare innovation while supporting a diverse portfolio of research, commercial and clinical projects.

The post holders will be based in the London Institute for Healthcare Engineering (LIHE) part of the School of Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Sciences, King's College London.

About The Role

The Senior Operations Officer will work within the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences, providing operational, project, financial, and administrative support to two closely linked teams (Medical Engineering Quality Team and MAISI) that enable medical device projects to progress from early development through to clinical evaluation.

The post holder will support customer and project coordination, procurement, grant and financial administration, communications, and general operational management across both teams. They will maintain and develop administrative systems, project management tools, and reporting processes to support the efficient delivery of projects and day-to-day operations.

The Medical Engineering Quality Team provides a Quality Management System (QMS) and bespoke regulatory support for a wide range of medical device design projects. This support includes technical file development and ensuring adherence to medical device regulatory requirements.

The second team, MAISI, operates a facility for the Manufacture of Active Implants and Surgical Instruments (MAISI). This is a cleanroom facility deployed for small-batch production of complex devices for use in human studies, that operates under the QMS, hence the two teams’ operations are closely linked.

The post holder will act as a key point of contact for customers, collaborators, suppliers, and internal stakeholders, supporting project onboarding, financial administration, procurement activities, and project coordination. They will contribute to the monitoring of project and grant budgets, preparation of costings and quotations, maintenance of project records, and delivery of management information to support operational planning and decision-making.

This role requires excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to manage a varied workload across multiple projects and stakeholders. The successful candidate will be proactive, adaptable, and capable of working independently while contributing positively to a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

The responsibilities listed reflect the majority of those of the current post holder, as this is a maternity cover.  However, every applicant will bring their own strengths and experiences, that will shape the role, and we are committed to supporting this flexibility. We therefore propose a more limited set of essential criteria, to encourage applications from candidates who feel motivated by the role, whilst the desirable criteria offer an opportunity to highlight your own unique strengths and experience.
