Research Fellow in Regulation for Alternative Protein (NAPIC- People Pillar)

Are you an experienced research fellow who enjoys contributing to pioneering interdisciplinary research? We have an exciting opportunity in the National Alternative Protein Innovation Centre (NAPIC) for someone with a passion for food sustainability, looking to use their skills in training and collaborative research to revolutionise the UK’s agri-food sector.

Educated to a PhD level, or Professional Qualification in Law, you will possess experience in legal research relating to food and agriculture in the UK and international markets. Collaborating with over 100 national and international partners, NAPIC’s vision is to create a sustainable food economy, making alternative protein options mainstream and accessible at a national level. You will work in a well-connected research team based across the universities of Sheffield, Leeds, Imperial College London, and the James Hutton Institute, using your excellent communication and qualitative research skills to convey complex legal issues to colleagues in a diverse range of disciplines and conduct academic literature reviews in the areas of domestic food law and policy.

You should also have experience in delivering training, workshops or other knowledge exchange, which you will use to build capacity and knowledge in food law and international trade regulations across NAPIC’s various scientific and industrial partners. As you will also be responsible for seeking opportunities to collaborate with commercial stakeholders, excellent interpersonal and project management skills would be an advantage.

The research fellow will identify UK and international regulatory pathways and barriers to NAPIC’s research, addressing innovation challenges and promoting the dissemination and commercialisation of scientific research, whilst maintaining high standards of food safety and consumer protection. In this role you will also provide essential contributions to policy advisory panels, expert committees and government consultations, maintaining the reputation of the University as a world-leading institution and stakeholder in the future of national agricultural practices.
