The Dickson Poon School of Law at King’s College London is one of the oldest law schools in England and recognised as one of the best law schools in the world. We are based in the East Wing of Somerset House, a Grade One listed building, on our Strand Campus, a short walk from the Royal Courts of Justice and Inns of Court in the heart of legal London.

About the role

The Dickson Poon School of Law is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Law who has already developed significant experience in applying for and being awarded external grants. The candidate is expected to be to give guidance to other mid and early career academics in winning external funding.
 
The candidate will also contribute to the teaching, research, and other academic and professional activities at The Dickson Poon School of Law.
 
The successful candidate will have a PhD and evidence of success in obtaining grants from research councils, charities or industry. They should be keen to gain further experience in research led teaching roles with active involvement in the administration and academic life of a thriving law school.
 
The successful candidates’ principal teaching may be in any area of law, and post-holders may be asked to contribute to the undergraduate programmes, including our core modules. 
 
In relation to their research, the successful candidates will be impact-focused and able contribute, if applicable, to the research priorities of the research centres in the School of Law.
 
The successful candidate will be welcomed as an integral part of our faculty. It is an exciting time to join us as we implement our new vision and strategic direction. This role will contribute to how we shape the future of our vibrant and internationally renowned Law School.
 
This is a full time (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
 
Essential criteria 
 
1.      PhD, DPhil or JSD or equivalent experience in Law.
2.      Track record of excellent teaching and knowledge in a relevant area of law. 
3.      A commitment to teaching in the area of the candidate’s research, and in subjects of core legal knowledge in our undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. 
4.      A strong publication record in their relevant area of law.  
5.      5. A track record of attracting substantial external funding. 
6.      Excellent oral and written communication skills.
7.      Competence with electronic learning platforms and other IT skills. 
8.      Ability to work effectively within a team, work collaboratively and collegiately as well as on one’s own initiative.
 
Desirable criteria
 
1.      Teaching award e.g., Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (Advance HE)
2.      Willingness to support early career academics with obtaining external funding  
3.      Experience of successfully undertaking academic administrative roles.
4.      A track record of excellent supervision of PhD students
