The role

We are seeking an experienced and collaborative HR Business Partner to join the HR Business Partnering team in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences on a fixed-term basis until 31 July 2027. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with managers and leaders across the Faculty, providing professional HR advice and support on a broad range of people management matters.

As a trusted partner, you will help managers navigate employee relations issues, workforce planning, organisational change, and the application of employment policies and procedures. You will work within a supportive and highly professional HR team committed to delivering excellent service and enabling organisational success through effective people management.

This role is offered at 0.6 FTE (21 hours per week) and is funded until 31 July 2027 to provide cover within the HR Business Partnering team.

What will you be doing?

  • Providing professional HR advice and guidance to managers on a wide range of people matters.
  • Supporting managers with employee relations cases, including attendance, capability, performance and conduct issues.
  • Advising on employment legislation, HR policy and best practice.
  • Using workforce and people data to support effective decision-making and workforce planning.
  • Supporting organisational change activities.
  • Contributing to HR projects, service improvements and the development of HR initiatives.
  • Delivering and supporting training and guidance for managers.
  • Building effective working relationships with managers, colleagues, employees and trade union representatives.

You should apply if

You are an HR professional with experience of providing generalist HR advice and support in a complex organisation. You will have sound understanding of employment law, HR polices and people management practices, together with excellent communication and relationship building skills.

You will be comfortable analysing information, identifying practical solutions to people-related challenges and influencing stakeholders at different levels. Strong organisational skills, resilience, and the ability to manage competing priorities are essential.

  • Experience of providing operational HR advice and guidance
  • Knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practice
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills
  • The ability to build effective working relationships and influence others
  • Experience using data to support decision-making and problem-solving
  • Degree level qualification or equivalent professional experience
  • CIPD qualification or working towards CIPD qualification (desirable)
