Dobson Professorship of Materials Science and Metallurgy

The Board of Electors to the Dobson Professorship of Materials Science and Metallurgy invite applications for this Professorship from persons whose work falls within the field of the Professorship, to take up appointment in 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Professorship benefits from a permanent endowment that provides research support and an exceptional opportunity to build a world-leading research group.

Candidates will have an outstanding research record and a sustained international reputation in energy materials and materials discovery. The successful candidate will establish an ambitious research programme focused on accelerating materials discovery, development and translation of functional electronic materials and devices. The Department is particularly interested in automation, computational materials discovery, and low-power electronic devices for information communication technologies.

Research may be experimental, computational or integrated, but should present a compelling vision for addressing challenges in energy materials and technologies. The successful candidate will provide intellectual and strategic leadership, build major interdisciplinary collaborations across the Department, School and wider University, and engage effectively with external partners. They should possess the vision, leadership, experience and enthusiasm to sustain and extend Cambridge's leading research presence, and will hold a PhD or equivalent postgraduate qualification.

Standard professorial duties include teaching and research, examining, supervision and administration. The Professor will be based in Cambridge. A competitive salary will be offered.
