Shape the next generation of creative thinkers and play a meaningful role in teaching critical, experimental approaches to understanding, imagining and shaping our cities.

MA Cities at Central Saint Martins is a distinctive, studio-based postgraduate course exploring creative approaches to city-making, with social and climate justice at its heart. Bringing together multi-media research, design, policy, situated practice and collaborative experimentation, the course challenges conventional approaches to urban development, regeneration and place-making, and asks how creative city-making practices can respond to the complex social, ethical and environmental challenges facing cities today.

As Course Tutor, you’ll play an important part in shaping the course’s teaching and development, supporting students to develop projects drawing on a range of skills including filmmaking, writing, site analysis and GIS mapping, and apply them critically. Working closely with the Course Leader, you’ll bring your specialist expertise to teaching and curriculum development, helping students develop ambitious, critical and propositional city-making projects. You’ll bring new perspectives to the curriculum, support an excellent student experience and help ensure the course remains at the forefront of creative and critical practice.

You’ll teach and assess postgraduate students, provide academic and pastoral support, and support pedagogic innovation, knowledge exchange and partnership activity. Central to the role will be a commitment to challenging established thinking, promoting diversity and inclusivity, and encouraging students to consider alternative ways in which cities can be understood, shaped and experienced.

About you

You’ll have experience of teaching and assessment in Higher Education, or equivalent experience, alongside a relevant postgraduate qualification or equivalent professional experience.

You’ll bring strong subject knowledge and relevant professional practice, an inquiring and innovative approach to teaching, and a genuine commitment to supporting a diverse postgraduate student community.

This is an opportunity to join Central Saint Martins’ Spatial Practices Programme and contribute to a course exploring some of the most urgent questions facing contemporary cities, while helping emerging creative practitioners to develop new ways to respond to them.
