An exciting opportunity to join Solent University’s Student Success Team on a 12-month fixed-term basis to provide dedicated mental health support and improve student retention and success through proactive interventions.

Are you a passionate mental health professional who wants to make a meaningful difference to students’ lives? Solent University is seeking a dedicated Mental Health Adviser to join our Student Success Directorate, helping students overcome challenges, thrive during their studies, and achieve their full potential.

At Solent, Student Success is at the heart of the student experience. We work collaboratively to provide inclusive, student-centred support that promotes wellbeing, retention, academic achievement, and personal growth. As part of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in supporting students experiencing a wide range of emotional and mental health difficulties.

You will manage a diverse caseload, providing short-term, solution-focused interventions, conducting assessments, developing support plans, and making referrals to internal and external services where appropriate. The role involves delivering one-to-one support, triage appointments, workshops, and group sessions, while working closely with colleagues across the University to ensure students access the full range of support available. You will also contribute to staff training, provide advice in complex or crisis situations, and maintain accurate and professional case records.

We are looking for a qualified and registered mental health professional, such as a Nurse, Occupational Therapist, or Social Worker, with substantial post-qualification experience. You will bring expertise in mental health assessment, risk management, and solution-focused approaches, alongside excellent communication, organisational, and IT skills. Experience of working within multidisciplinary teams and supporting individuals through complex situations is essential.
