Lecturer in Psychology (Full-Time, Permanent)

The School of Psychology offers BSc Accredited undergraduate programmes where our small group teaching model develops key career and employability skills alongside psychological knowledge and critical thinking. Our MSc Cyberpsychology programme expands our taught provision to postgraduate level and complements our MSc and PhD research degrees. All our academics are active in research, areas currently include: chronic pain/illness, compassion/self-compassion, creativity, cyberpsychology, dance psychology, expertise, Religion, Spirituality and Transpersonal psychology

The School is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Psychology. The successful candidate will be collaborative and motivated, bringing innovation, enthusiasm, and a commitment to high-quality teaching provision and research activity within an inclusive academic environment. 

The Role

To lead and contribute to the design, delivery, and ongoing development of undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Psychology programmes.

Key responsibilities include:

• deliver high-quality teaching in small groups and supervise student projects
• provide pastoral care and inspire students to achieve their potential
• take the lead on coordinating and delivering existing modules and develop new ones
• contribute to research teams and develop their own area of research
• hold administrative responsibilities as required from time to time
• contribute to promotional, recruitment and outreach activities

The core teaching responsibilities will cover teaching on GBC psychology modules on the BSc (level 5) as well as level 4 and 6 modules.

The post is suitable for candidates who hold (or are nearing completion of) a PhD in Psychology.

Candidates should have up-to-date subject knowledge and technical skills in the context of higher education and the disciplines they will teach, aligned with the core teaching areas. They should demonstrate awareness of sustainability and ethical issues in these areas. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment are essential. Candidates will have a strong commitment to teaching as well as research in psychology. Experience in academic teaching is essential. The post is suitable for individuals seeking to develop a successful academic career in collaboration with colleagues across the School, and with the wider academic and practitioner communities. Ideally, candidates will have experience in teaching one or multiple of the following: developmental psychology, environmental psychology or psychological consequences of digital culture. We also welcome applications from any candidate who has experience or interest in complementary research areas already ongoing in University of Buckingham’s School of Psychology.
