INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS SCHOOL SUZHOU (IBSS)

International Business School Suzhou (IBSS) at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is growing in size and influence in pursuit of its vision to be a leading international business school. The school is based on strong principles of internationalism, innovation, inspiration and integrity, which together ensure a positive impact on society through our teaching, research and business engagement. In that pursuit, IBSS became the youngest “triple crown” business school, accredited by AACSB (2016), EQUIS (2018), and AMBA/BGA (2020).

The five departments of IBSS are Accounting, Economics, Finance, Intelligent Operations and Marketing, and Strategic Management and Organizations with over 180 faculty members and more than 6,000 students from over 60 different countries. About the Department

The Department of Intelligent Operations and Marketing at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is a multidisciplinary and internationally oriented academic department spanning Marketing, Operations and Supply Chain Management, Project Management, and Information Systems.

The Department is highly cosmopolitan and international in its composition, with colleagues from China, Japan, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Italy, Australia, Singapore, the Netherlands and Canada, among other backgrounds. This international environment provides a strong foundation for global research collaboration, interdisciplinary scholarship and internationally oriented teaching.

About the Position

We are seeking an outstanding, internationally engaged and research-active scholar whose research and teaching contribute to the broad and evolving field of Information Systems (and its relations to other functions such as marketing, project management etc.,), with a strong focus on business and organisational applications.

Candidates’ research and teaching should have a clear and substantive connection to information systems, digital technologies, data, organisations or technology-enabled business.

We are particularly interested in scholars with  teaching  in one or more of the listed priority areas:

  • Agentic AI and AI-enabled organisations
  • Data-driven marketing
  • Cybersecurity
  • Data analytics and visualisation
  • Digital transformation
  • Technology-enabled decision-making and project management

We are therefore open to a broad range of profiles. This includes Information Systems scholars whose work is strongly business- or organisation-focused, as well as scholars from adjacent disciplines such as quantitative marketing, where their research engages meaningfully with technology, information systems, data or digital business. 

As this is a Research Track appointment, research excellence and the development of a strong, internationally recognised research profile are central to the role. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, while developing an ambitious programme of research and contributing to the Department’s research environment. The appointment level will be determined according to the candidate’s qualifications, research record, teaching experience, external funding, doctoral supervision, academic leadership and wider contribution to the academic community.

Expectations by Level of Appointment

All candidates, regardless of level of appointment, are expected to have international experience demonstrated through their academic career, research collaborations, teaching, professional engagement or other relevant activities.

As all teaching and academic activities within the Department are conducted in English, candidates must demonstrate a high level of English proficiency, including the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively in teaching, research, supervision and academic leadership contexts

Assistant Professor

At Assistant Professor level, you should be a high-potential early-career scholar who is developing a strong and internationally oriented research profile.

Candidates should:

  • Hold a PhD in Information Systems or a closely related discipline, or be close to completion.
  • Demonstrate a strong research pipeline, with clear potential for publication in leading international journals.
  • Show evidence of the capacity to develop an independent and internationally recognised research programme.
  • Demonstrate the ability to contribute to high-quality teaching in Information Systems and related areas.
  • Be capable of teaching subjects including, where appropriate, agentic AI, data-driven marketing, cybersecurity, data analytics and data visualisation.
  • Demonstrate an interest in innovative and research-informed teaching and pedagogy.
  • Show potential to contribute to the Department’s research, teaching and academic citizenship activities.

Associate Professor

At Associate Professor level, you should be an established scholar with a strong record of research, teaching and academic contribution.

In addition to the expectations above, candidates should normally demonstrate:

  • A strong and sustained record of high-quality publications in internationally recognised journals.
  • A strong research pipeline demonstrating continued potential for research excellence.
  • A track record of securing external research funding, preferably including experience as Principal Investigator or leading externally funded projects.
  • A strong track record of high-quality teaching and innovative pedagogy.
  • Experience contributing to curriculum development and programme enhancement.
  • Experience of PhD supervision, with successful doctoral completions desirable.
  • Evidence of academic leadership, collaboration and contribution to the wider Department and University.
  • A clear record of international research engagement and collaboration.

Senior Associate Professor

At Senior Associate Professor level, you should be a senior scholar with an exceptional and sustained record of research, funding, doctoral supervision, academic leadership and wider academic contribution.

In addition to the expectations for Associate Professor, candidates should demonstrate:

  • An established international recognition and demonstrated leadership in developing research capacity.
  • A substantial and continuing research pipeline and an established international research reputation.
  • A strong track record of securing external research funding as Principal Investigator, including significant or major funded projects where appropriate.
  • A sustained record of successful PhD supervision and doctoral completions.
  • Significant experience of academic leadership and major service or administrative responsibilities, at departmental, school, university or equivalent levels.
  • Evidence of meaningful contribution to the wider academic community, for example through scholarly associations, editorial activities, conference leadership, professional engagement, research networks or other forms of academic service.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor colleagues, develop research capacity and contribute strategically to the future direction of the discipline.
  • A strong record of teaching excellence, curriculum development and innovative pedagogy.

Employment at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is regulated by Chinese Labour Laws, and must comply with the regulations of the provincial government. These regulations stipulate who is eligible for legal employment with regard to obtaining work permits and visas. Please be advised candidates over 60 may be not eligible for a work visa in the P.R.
