Description of Post

This post relates primarily to the teaching of Forensic Investigation and Analysis and cognate disciplines within the Faculty of Science and Health on the Sligo Campus.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake lecturing and associated duties (on-site and online) pertaining to a range of modules within the Faculty, with special emphasis on Forensic Investigation and Analysis, and related areas.

This post will involve teaching in areas that encompass a broad spectrum of applied topics in the forensic and analytical sciences, and will be expected to develop and enhance areas such as Forensic Science, Forensic Biology, Forensic Chemistry, Forensic Toxicology, Crime Scene Management, Instrumental Analysis in Forensics, and Environmental Forensic Science, etc., providing leadership and expertise in a manner which engages with the student body and ensures that the students understand the relevance and application of their core learning.

The Department of Life Sciences at ATU Sligo Campus, has a broad range of programmes spanning a variety of disciplines including the areas of Biomedical Science, Biopharmaceutical Science, Forensic Science, Medical Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Science.

New academic staff will be expected to champion the development of new courses for whole-time or part-time delivery in disciplines with the broad subject area cognate with the title of the post, engage in relevant research, which will expand the research expertise and activity in the Faculty.

Courses in the Faculty of Science and Health are semesterised, modularized, and credit weighted.

The Faculty of Science and Health is actively encouraging the development of self-learning competencies in students; the appointee will be expected to prepare course material such that it can be made available to students in text and/or electronic form, and to contribute to innovative teaching and learning methods (such as Universal Design for Learning, problem-based learning, etc.).

Essential Qualifications

  • An Honours Degree (2.2 or higher) in a relevant Level 8 degree [as specified in the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ)], or equivalent.
  • Three years relevant post-qualification experience.
