Lecturer in Digital Ecology and Environmental Sciences

Description of Post

This position is central to the delivery and development of teaching, research, and innovation in Digital Ecology and Environmental Science, with a particular emphasis on the newly developed MSc in Digital Ecology and Biosurveillance.

Digital ecology integrates environmental science with digital technologies such as remote sensing, environmental modelling, AI, IoT sensing systems, and eDNA analysis, while biosurveillance focuses on monitoring biodiversity, environmental change, and biological threats using real-time data systems. The successful candidate will:

• Contribute to undergraduate programmes in Environmental Science and Ecology

• Play a key role in the delivery and growth of the MSc Digital Ecology and Biosurveillance programme

• Support research-led teaching, fieldwork, laboratory work, and digital data analysis training

• Engage in applied research aligned with environmental monitoring, biodiversity, and digital technologies

The successful applicant will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across a number of programmes, both full-time and online. Degree programmes include Environmental Science with Ecology, Environmental Management, L9 Environmental Protection, L9 Sustainability and Climate reporting and other science-based offerings in addition to the MSc in Digital Ecology and Biosurveillance.

The successful candidate will be expected to deliver lectures, supervise field and laboratory practicals, and contribute to curriculum development and innovation. The successful candidate will also supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and participate in the development of new full-time and online courses

Essential Qualifications

Minimum

Applicants must have:

• A level 9 qualification
• A level 8 honours
• A minimum of three years relevant post-qualification experience.
