Lecture Assistant Professor (above the bar) - Specific Purpose

Applications are invited for a specified purpose post of a Lecture Assistant Professor (above the bar) within the School of History

The School of History is seeking to appoint a Specified Purpose cover (estimated duration 5-years) Lecturer in the history of war post-1945, ideally with a focus on Europe (including Northern Ireland / Britain and decolonisation conflicts). The expected start date is 1 January 2027, or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing these teaching initiatives and pursue their own research projects. The successful candidate will:

• Teach survey and research-led modules at BA level, including co-teaching a second-year survey module on twentieth-century war;
• Contribute to the MA in International War Studies;
• Supervise undergraduate and graduate dissertations;
• Contribute to the administration of the School, as designated by the Head of School;
• Have the opportunity to develop their research agenda and to apply for University and College seed-funding schemes;
• Pursue research, including peer-reviewed publications and grant applications;
• Undertake other duties as assigned by the Head of School;
• Participate in student recruitment and internationalisation activities;

• Engage in appropriate Professional Development and other training programmes in the University;
• Promote the development of the School, College and the University;
• Maintain the highest professional standards to enhance School and University performance and reputation;
• Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably requested, commensurate with the nature and grade of the post.

Salary Scale: 95 Lecturer/Assistant Professor Above The Bar (7943) €66,055 - €104,600 per annum

Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines
