Lecturer in Film Practice

About the Role
The Department of Film, within the School of the Arts, is looking to appoint a Lecturer in Film Practice (Teaching and Scholarship). This post is part-time (11.55 hours p/w) and fixed-term with an expected start date of 01 January 2027 until 31 August 2032 to cover staff absence through research grant funding.

Duties will include convening and teaching undergraduate modules in film practice, and modules combining film theory and practice, contributing to MA provision as appropriate, (co)-supervising PhD students, and undertaking administrative roles as required within the Department. The role is likely to involve teaching modules such as: Forms of Film Practice; Creative Producing; Cinema & Disability; Performative Documentary. Strengths in nonfiction and experimental film would be an advantage, with the ability to teach across our film programme.

About You
You will hold a PhD in Film Practice or have an equivalent professional qualification as a practising filmmaker, together with the ability to deliver teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The ability to work constructively and flexibly with colleagues, good organizational and communicative skills are also essential. Experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable: artists’ moving image; documentary; disability studies; film & medical humanities.

The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is a part-time (11.55 hours per week), fixed-term appointment until 31 August 2032, with an expected start date of 01 January 2027. The starting salary will be Grade 5, £51,755 to £60,901 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of London allowance.
