About the Role

The Department of Film, within the School of the Arts is looking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Film (Teaching & Research). This post is full-time (35 hours p/w) and fixed-term with an expected start date of 01 January 2027 until 31 December 2027.

Duties will include convening and teaching postgraduate and undergraduate modules in film and in film practice (including hybrid theory-practice modules), contributing to MA provision as appropriate, (co)-supervising PhD students, and undertaking administrative roles as required within the Department. You will be expected to teach on some of the following modules: Film Archaeology; Modern/Postmodern Cinema; Making Media; Creative Documentary and Digital Filmmaking.  

You will also play a key role in the strategic development of new modules in film practice and digital creation that align with current and emerging industry trends, thus embedding emerging digital creation skills in our Curriculum 2030 and strengthening relationships with the wider creative industries.

You will make a significant contribution to the maintenance of research leadership in film practice and digital creation through strategic partnership development and impact leadership, through advising and mentoring on practice-based research, and through leading on strategic grant capture by continuing the pipeline established with our recent major collaborative OHC-bearing awards.

About You

You will hold a PhD in Film or have an equivalent professional qualification, together with the ability to deliver teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level. You will be able to work across areas of film practice and digital creation and to lead modules in areas of film theory and hybrid theory/practice modules. You will be comfortable playing a key role in the strategic development of new modules in film practice and digital creation. You will be an experienced researcher, able to draw on your own outputs across written or practice-based research to contribute to research leadership in Film as we approach REF2029. The ability to work constructively and flexibly with colleagues, good organisational and communicative skills are also essential.

The post is based at the Mile End Campus, London. The starting salary will be Grade 7, £64,331 - £71,834 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
