Research Application Manager, Sustainability

THE ROLE

The Sustainability mission at The Alan Turing Institute focuses on the safe decarbonisation of transportation networks, manufacturing processes, and critical infrastructure, to create pathways to net-zero. To achieve this, the mission uses data-centric engineering tools, pioneered by researchers at the Turing in partnership with Lloyd's Register Foundation, a global safety charity with a mission to engineer a safer world. 

The Sustainability Mission is built around the following five strategic pillars: 

• Technology development and translation 
• Standards and regulation
• Skills, training and knowledge exchange 
• Community building 
• Research and innovation  

We have three existing themes of focused engineering activity: manufacturing, maritime and critical infrastructure, and a fourth pillar, interpretive technologies, focuses on the interface between engineering and society. 

We are recruiting a Research Application Manager who will work across all four of these themes to provide support in the technology development and translation pillar. You will ensure that the research outputs across the sustainability mission are adopted successfully across government, the charity sector and industry. Your role will be to understand the user, develop technical specifications and create demos or proofs of concept that demonstrate the potential for these methods in application. 

The postholder will work on strengthening existing stakeholder relationships and identifying new potential users of research outputs. They will develop specifications for these outputs, designing and building software that can meet these specifications. 

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

• Drive the translation of Sustainability Mission research into practical applications, supporting the successful adoption of research outputs by external stakeholders.
• Build and strengthen relationships with industry, government and charitable partners, identifying opportunities to maximise the impact of Turing research.
• Represent user needs within multidisciplinary research teams, helping shape solutions that address real-world challenges.
• Develop and deliver proofs of concept, demonstrations and technical specifications that showcase the value of research outputs.
• Facilitate collaboration between researchers, stakeholders and delivery partners to accelerate innovation and knowledge exchange.
• Communicate technical concepts and project outcomes through reports, presentations, workshops, publications and engagement activities. 

ABOUT YOU

• Experience in stakeholder engagement, for instance, experience working with consortium partners, research collaborators, delivery partners, or clients.
• Experience with basic coding skills in any programming language.
• Experience in leading and developing internal networks, such as working groups or committees in order to deliver collaborative and cross functional projects or initiatives
• Ability to design and use data gathering and analytical methods appropriate for each investigation.
• Produces reports that identify key issues and findings. Recognises and accurately interprets patterns and trends.

Terms and Conditions

This full time post is offered on a fixed term basis for 2 years with the annual salary range is £57,000-£61,500.
