ABOUT THE POST 

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Senior Lecturer in Translation to join our academic team. The successful candidate will provide leadership the BA Translation programme while contributing to teaching across the curriculum.  A strong commitment to student success, inclusivity, and excellence in teaching is essential, with a particular focus on creating an engaging and supportive learning environment that enhances the student experience. 

The post-holder will contribute to teaching modules that develop students’ analytical and interpretive reading and writing skills as an integral part of the translation process, their awareness of the important role that cultures play in the ways we process and produce texts and their understanding of the translation process, its stages and the mechanisms underlying them. Teaching responsibilities will also include modules covering key translation theories and their application to professional practice, the supervision of undergraduate dissertations and translation projects, and the delivery of language-specific translation seminars.  

As an experienced translation professional and educator, you will contribute to overseeing the activities of the BA Translation as well as teaching, assessment and associated administration involved in delivering modules within the subject of translation. You will be expected to prepare, deliver and assess coursework, assignments, examinations and project work, and provide language specific tutorial guidance to students, working alongside the teaching team. 

Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent in Translation Studies or related fields, relevant teaching experience and a strong record of research or professional practice in translation.  

Key responsibilities:  

• Effectively lead the BA Translation Programme  
• Deliver high-quality teaching in translation theory, practice and related subject  
• Develop and enhance learning material in the field of translation studies  
• Supervise UG and PG projects and dissertations  
• Conduct and publish research in translation studies or related fields 
• Contribute to assessment, academic administrative and quality assurance  
• Support student engagement and academic development and success  
• Help foster an inclusive, collaborative and intellectually stimulating learning environment
• Contribute actively to departmental and school initiatives, academic event and the wider institutional community
