Research Fellow

About the Job:

The School of EEECS at Queen’s University Belfast is seeking a Research Fellow to contribute to an ambitious US-Ireland funded research project focused on the security, safety and resilience of industrial control and cyber-physical systems. Working within the EPIC research cluster, the successful candidate will collaborate with leading researchers at New York University and University College Cork to develop innovative modelling and analysis methods for complex infrastructure systems.

The project will develop data-driven hybrid models that capture the interaction between physical processes, control systems, communication networks and cyberattacks. The Research Fellow will contribute to the development of mathematical and computational methods for safety verification, reachability analysis and resilience assessment, and support the implementation of these methods in research software and experimental platforms, including QUB’s cyber-physical microgrid testbed.

The role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of control theory, cyber-physical systems and cybersecurity while collaborating with an international team of academics and researchers. The successful candidate will undertake independent and collaborative research, publish high-quality research outputs, present findings at international conferences, contribute to project deliverables, and support the wider research activities of the team.

About the person:

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:

• Have or be about to obtain a PhD in control theory or control engineering, applied mathematics, electrical engineering, computer science, cyber-physical systems or a closely related discipline.
• Recent relevant research experience in one or more of the following areas:

• • hybrid systems and/or discrete event systems;
  • systems and control;
  • reachability analysis and/or set-based methods;
  • formal methods;
  • optimisation and computational methods for dynamical systems;
  • cyber-physical systems.

• A strong understanding of mathematical modelling and analysis of dynamical systems.
• Experience in developing, analysing and implementing mathematical or computational algorithms.
• Strong scientific programming skills.
• Evidence of the ability to conduct research independently and to identify and address challenging research questions.
• Evidence of working effectively as part of a research team.
• A strong publication record commensurate with the applicant’s stage of career
