Are you an experienced Machine Build Engineer who enjoys working collaboratively? We have an exciting opportunity to join us at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) in Sheffield. Based at Factory 2050, you will join our machine integration team to work on prototype automation systems for high-value manufacturing projects. You will join a diverse team of engineers, project managers and operational staff to help deliver innovative manufacturing research and turn initial engineering concepts into working physical machinery.
To succeed in this role, you will bring practical experience in designing, building, and testing industrial machinery. You have a clear understanding of pneumatic system design, fluidic controls, and machine safety standards such as ISO 13849. A degree in mechanical or automation engineering (or equivalent industry experience) is required. Experience with functional safety certifications, such as holding or working toward a CFSE or CMSE qualification, is helpful, but we also support training for candidates looking to build on these credentials.
In this role, you will take ownership of the mechanical, pneumatic, and physical build of machine builds. Your core responsibilities include designing mechanical parts, designing pneumatic circuits, assembling hardware, completing functional tests and generating technical folders, whilst supporting the mentorship of apprentices as they develop their technical skills. You will support full project lifecycles, from initial concept through to final safety sign-off.
At the University of Sheffield, we support your long-term career growth with funding for professional chartership and technical training. We offer a competitive pension scheme, a generous annual leave allowance, and family-friendly flexible working options. If you want to apply your mechanical and pneumatic experience to custom automation projects, we encourage you to apply.
