Water Feature Technician

Location: University Park

Your role as a Water Feature Technician 

Based at any of our local University sites, this role will undertake work on all lakes, ponds and ornamental marginal edges, carrying out leaf collection and spraying around water features. You will also undertake water feature plant maintenance to ensure the correct operation of water treatment, filtration and pump equipment to include the safe isolation of water pipes and electrical units within the plant pits. Other duties include undertaking remedial work, inspecting areas for damaged pipes and leaks and recording and monitoring data of both the water and chemical levels adjusting computer systems as required to ensure levels always remain balanced.

The successful candidate will also undertake all practical aspects of gardens maintenance and development, and will have of knowledge of trees and shrubs, perennial, and annual plants.

Candidates should be qualified to NVQ 2 and/or City and Guilds Level 2 in Amenity Horticulture Grounds Practices or hold an equivalent level qualification and have prior experience of working with ornamental water features including lakes and ponds in a similar ground’s maintenance role using associated equipment. 

Due to the frequency with which the post holder will drive vehicles involved in grounds maintenance operations and transport materials between university sites, candidates must hold a full, current driving license.

This position is offered on a permanent basis. Hours of work are full time (36.25 hours per week) to be worked 5 days out of 7 to be arranged (mainly Monday to Friday) with flexibility to work weekends as required. Job share arrangements may be considered.
