The London School of Economics is a cosmopolitan university situated in the vibrant centre of London that specialises in the study of social sciences.
LSE’s Data and Technology Services division provides services to over 10,000 staff and student users.
The Platforms Engineering Lead provides hands-on technical leadership and day-to-day operational oversight for the School’s platforms and infrastructure services, including compute, storage, virtualisation, backup and cloud foundations. The role is responsible for ensuring these services are reliable, secure, scalable and well-run, while progressively modernising how the platform estate is built and operated.
The postholder is responsible for embedding automation, infrastructure-as-code, observability, platform reliability and continuous improvement, while maintaining the stability, scalability and recoverability of a large, business-critical platform estate. The role drives the adoption of reusable platform services, self-service capabilities and standardised engineering approaches that enable DTS and business-led technology teams to deliver and operate solutions more efficiently, while maintaining appropriate security, governance and operational controls. The role will also lead the rest of the team by example and set high service, interaction and delivery standards.
