The Centre for Economic Transition Expertise (CETEx) is a policy research centre within the Global School of Sustainability at LSE. CETEx develops independent research, policy analysis, technical assistance and capacity-building programmes that support policymakers, central banks, finance ministries and regulators in delivering sustainable, inclusive and resilient economies and financial systems. By combining academic research with practical policy expertise, CETEx helps decision-makers implement effective climate, nature and economic transition reforms around the world.

CETEx is seeking a Policy Fellow to lead an ambitious programme of research and technical support focused on economic and fiscal policy and its interlinkages with monetary and financial-supervisor policymaking in Indonesia and Southeast Asia, with the opportunity to work in other emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs). CETEx is seeking to appoint a Policy Fellow to work within the EMDEs pillar of the centre, conduct research, develop policies and lead engagements that help policymakers develop and implement policies that accelerate an inclusive, low-carbon and climate-resilient transition. The postholder will employ their reputation for rigorous policy-related research and related activities at a senior level to ensure that research outputs have demonstrable impact and inform policy debates and decision.

The postholder will have a postgraduate degree in finance, economics, climate/environmental governance, environmental/ecological economics, public/social policy or a closely related field, and hold experience working closely with or within a fiscal, monetary or economic policymaker such as a finance ministry, central bank, financial regulator, or a public finance institution, preferably on environmental risks or opportunities or other sustainability challenges. Furthermore, the postholder will have excellent and demonstrable understanding of the impact of environmental risks and opportunities on macroeconomic variables such as GDP, employment, prices, fiscal revenues, fiscal expenditure, debt sustainability and broader macroeconomic stability measures. Experience working on environment-related policy issues in Southeast Asia, with Indonesia in focus, and Excellent understanding of public finance and fiscal policy levers that can be used to support a low-carbon and climate-resilient transition, such as blended finance mechanisms, carbon taxes and credits, tax breaks and subsidies and other (dis)incentives, with broader fiscal – monetary interlinkage are essential in this role.

We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave, hybrid working, and excellent training and development opportunities.
