About us
Based within the Division of Psychology and Language Sciences in UCL’s Faculty of Brain Sciences, the Department of Linguistics brings together theoretical, experimental and computational approaches to the study of language, and has a track record of innovative and excellent research in formal theoretical linguistics and the cognitive science of language. About the role
The postholder will deliver and develop teaching in computational linguistics, while also undertaking original research and publication, master’s student supervision in areas related to their research expertise, contributions to doctoral supervision where appropriate, and academic service. They will teach the existing Introduction to Computational Linguistics and Advanced Computational Linguistics modules on the MA Linguistics with a Specialisation in Computational Linguistics. They will also design Foundations of Maths and Programming for Computational Linguistics for the same postgraduate programme and teach it from 2027–28.

About you
The successful candidate will hold a relevant PhD by the start date and can evidence independent research in computational linguistics, desirably with high-quality research outputs commensurate with career stage. They will have mathematical expertise and relevant university teaching experience, with the ability to develop accessible postgraduate teaching and assessment in mathematical and programming foundations. They will organise teaching and administrative work independently and contribute to an inclusive academic environment.
