THE POST – REQ000634 - Lecturer in TV Production

The post offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced television practitioner to contribute to the BA (Hons) Television, Radio & Podcast Production programme within a rich interdisciplinary academic environment that recognises quality in education, research/creative practice and industry engagement. This outstanding programme has enjoyed 100% Overall Satisfaction in the National Student Survey over the last two years.

You will have experience of teaching within Higher Education, contributing to research-informed curriculum design, learning, teaching and assessment, using inclusive and contemporary approaches to practice-based education.

You will have a strong professional practitioner profile in television production, with particular expertise in factual/non-scripted programme development and studio-based production. You will bring current industry knowledge and practical production experience to teaching, supporting students in developing ideas from initial concept and research through pitching, production and post-production.

You should have experience and understanding of contemporary broadcast and multiplatform workflows. Practical knowledge of television production techniques, with proficiency in one or more areas including studio production, camera, sound and post-production, will enable you to contribute across a range of practice-based modules and collaborative student productions.

You will have an active network of professional contacts within the television and wider screen industries in Scotland and the UK, and will use these relationships to support industry engagement, student opportunities and curriculum currency, contributing to an excellent, industry-facing student experience through teaching, curriculum development, research and/or creative practice, and engagement with external partners.

The Faculty is multidisciplinary so you will have opportunities to work across programmes and contribute to collaborative programme design.

You will bring industry and teaching experience in supporting student success, professional standards and strong graduate outcomes, while exemplifying the UWS values of Integrity, Respect, Inclusivity and Accountability.

The successful candidate should have the following:

  • Honours degree and postgraduate qualification in television, media production or a relevant discipline, or significant equivalent professional industry experience in television production.
  • An active network of professional contacts within the television and wider screen industries in Scotland and the UK, with the ability to use these relationships to support industry engagement, student opportunities and curriculum currency.
  • Evidence of substantial professional practice in factual/non-scripted television production, including programme development and the development of ideas from research and concept through pitching and production.
  • Professional experience in studio television and/or studio-based documentary production.
  • A working knowledge of teaching in a higher education institution or an appropriate external training/industry context at a level commensurate with career stage.
  • A strong understanding in module/programme administration and/or co-ordination.
  • Evidence of a research, creative practice and/or professional track record commensurate with career stage.
