The School of Humanities and Social Science at LJMU is an innovative and distinct school. We are leading educators within five subject areas: English Literature, History, Media, Culture and Communication, Sociology and International Relations and Politics. Blending cutting-edge research with innovative teaching and engagement with practitioners, the curriculum that underpins these subject areas is vibrant, student focused and centred on contemporary debates and issues.
The school is committed to producing world-leading research that has impact and reach across the regional, national and global stage. Our distinguished reputation is strengthened by the relationships we have established with key stakeholders outside the University, both locally and internationally, which enhance the student experience and reflect the University’s commitment to be a pioneering and modern civic university.
What we’re looking for
We are seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer with programme responsibilities who is able to teach on several modules related to our degrees at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. We require the successful candidate to lead the BA in International Relations and Politics programme.
The role also involves contributing to teaching at foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate levels more broadly, as needed.
Key responsibilities include:
You will have a PhD level qualification in a relevant discipline (awarded or near completion), with a clear research trajectory aligned with politics and/or international relations. You will also have an HE teaching qualification or commitment to enrol and complete the PGCertLTHE programme. The ability to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in relevant lectures, tutorials and seminars and to supervise postgraduate experience as well as a proven record of ability to conduct high-quality research is also essential. Whilst not essential, we are interested in hearing from those with research and teaching interests in at least one or more of these themes:
The People, Politics and Communication department brings together International Relations and Politics, Media, Culture and Communication, and Sociology. Colleagues are members of the Liverpool Centre for Cultural, Social and Political Research (CSPR), and we would expect the successful candidate to contribute to its work and to develop teaching that attracts students across the department.
What we offer
This is a key moment to join a welcoming, ambitious, and research-informed university community that places students at the heart of everything we do. We value and invest in our staff, offering meaningful opportunities for professional development, scholarship support, and clear internal promotion routes.
If you’re inspired by the idea of joining a growing university and bringing your expertise to a community where you can truly make a difference, we look forward to hearing from you.
