The School promotes equality, diversity and inclusivity in all aspects of its work. Essex Law School offers a wide range of courses to students with a blend of experiential learning. Alongside our single-honours LLB, we deliver joint LLBs with various other subjects such as human rights, philosophy, business, finance, and criminology and run an award-winning LLB Licence English and French Law (Double Degree). At the postgraduate level, we offer a general LLM and courses in subjects including international law, international commercial and business law, law and technology, law, environment and sustainability, and human rights (both LLM and interdisciplinary MA).
Duties of the Role
Essex Law School is recruiting a lecturer to join our diverse community of scholars, who will be able to contribute to teaching in the compulsory areas of our undergraduate curriculum, particularly the foundations of legal knowledge subjects. The appointee will demonstrate a commitment to providing an engaging, innovative curriculum that meets the modern needs of our diverse student body in a campus-based environment. An ability to contribute to teaching in other areas of the undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum is essential. The successful candidate will deliver substantive, effective and engaging teaching, supervision and learning support to our students, select appropriate methods of assessment and feedback to learners, supervise student projects, support experiential learning programmes, and undertake administrative duties.
Skills and qualifications required
Applicants will have a relevant doctoral level research degree or equivalent professional experience/practice or be close to completion of a PhD, as well as having an undergraduate/postgraduate degree in law (or equivalent professional experience). They will have experience in teaching at undergraduate/postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to contribute to teaching and learning support in engaging and innovative ways.
We particularly welcome applications from those from an ethnic minority as they are under-represented in the School of Law.
