The School of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health is seeking to appoint two Clinical Research Fellows. You will contribute to therapy development research for angina and no obstructive coronary arteries (ANOCA) in women, led by Professor Colin Berry and funded by Wellcome Leap’s Visible Programme. This is a transformative international research initiative aiming to improve the diagnosis and treatment of women living with ANOCA. Women are disproportionately affected by coronary microvascular dysfunction and coronary vasospasm, yet these conditions remain under-recognised, resulting in delayed diagnosis, treatment uncertainty, and significant health inequalities.
This pioneering, patient-centred programme is co-designed with women who have lived experience of ANOCA and led by internationally recognised clinical researchers and trialists. The programme brings together three closely linked studies: ANOCA Diagnosis, which seeks to improve the identification and classification of disease mechanisms, ANOCA Therapy, an innovative clinical trials platform designed to evaluate and accelerate access to effective treatments, and ANOCA Exercise, which will evaluate resistance exercise as a lifestyle therapy option.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of a once-in-a-generation effort to generate the evidence needed to transform clinical care, improve therapy options for women, and address longstanding sex-based disparities in cardiovascular health.
You will be joining a clinical research team within the School and perform 100% of their duties under the auspices of the University. It is envisaged that the post would attract existing trainees in Cardiology wishing experience in clinical research. The job will involve clinical research activities in the Clinical Research and Imaging facilities in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, the outpatient clinic at Gartnavel Hospital, the NHS Golden Jubilee hospital, the sponsor team and coordination with site staff and the Robertson Centre for Biostatistics.
The Graduate School of the School of Medicine supports all aspects of postgraduate training and development. It is expected that the Fellow will register for a higher degree and that the work will provide material sufficient to submit an MD or PhD. Postgraduate students undertaking higher degrees are required to participate in the Research Training Programme in generic and transferable skills coordinated by the Graduate School. Full details of the programme are available at http://www.gla.ac.uk/colleges/mvls/graduateschool/.
This post is full-time, 35 hours per week and has funding for up to 3 years.
