About The Role
Senior Clinical Tutor (Royal Devon University Hospital North, Barnstaple)
The University of Exeter Medical School is seeking to appoint a Senior Clinical Tutor to support the delivery of our BMBS programme in North Devon.
The above part time (0.2FTE) role is available from December 2026 on a permanent basis.
The time commitment will be incorporated into the successful candidate's University workload and Trust job plan, and applicants should obtain support from their current line manager before applying.
Contract and Remuneration
The successful candidate will either be an existing contracted clinical member of staff or will have a substantive contract in an appropriate NHS organisation and will require an honorary contract with the University of Exeter (NHS employees will remain employed and paid by the Trust). NHS employees will need to gain approval from their employer to undertake this role (hours will be incorporated into their Trust workplan).
The successful candidate will remain on existing clinical salary and terms and conditions.
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced senior clinician based within Royal Devon University Hospital North to play a key role in shaping and enhancing the clinical education experience of medical students undertaking placements in North Devon. Working as part of the UEMS North Devon team, you will contribute to both the strategic development and day-to-day delivery of high-quality clinical placements, ensuring students receive an outstanding educational experience whilst supporting the needs of clinical services.
The role combines educational leadership, student support and programme development. You will work collaboratively with clinical colleagues, educators and University staff to oversee clinical placements, support teaching and assessment activities, respond to student feedback, and contribute to ongoing curriculum enhancement.
About you
We are looking for a senior clinician with recent or ongoing experience in secondary care, GMC registration and a licence to practise, together with a strong commitment to medical education. You will be an effective communicator, able to build positive relationships with students, educators and colleagues across the Trust and University. Experience of teaching and assessing learners in clinical environments is essential.
At the University of Exeter, we are committed to creating an inclusive culture where all members of our community can thrive.
We welcome applications from candidates who share our commitment to excellence in education and student experience.
