Launched in September 2026, the University of Hertfordshire’s new Medical School is part of our vibrant School of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences, bringing medical education into a multidisciplinary community. We are seeking an experienced Senior Medical Educator (MBBS) to help shape and deliver our undergraduate medical programme at this exciting stage of its development.
Main duties and responsibilities
You will lead and support designated modules, contributing to MBBS curriculum implementation, integration and quality assurance. Your teaching will include lectures, seminars, clinical and communication skills, and active learning through case-based learning, problem-based learning, and team-based learning. You will contribute to assessment design, blueprinting, question writing, standard setting and evaluation. Alongside this, you will support clinical placements, student progression and academic support, mentor teaching colleagues, and contribute to educational scholarship, innovation and continuous programme improvement.
Skills and experience
You will bring substantial experience in undergraduate or postgraduate medical education, including teaching, curriculum development and assessment, together with experience of academic leadership or module coordination. You will understand GMC undergraduate standards and be committed to equality and inclusive, student-centred learning. Excellent communication, organisational and collaborative skills will enable you to work effectively with multidisciplinary academic and clinical teams.
Qualifications
Degree or equivalent qualification in health science or a related field, with relevant clinical or academic experience. Postgraduate study in medical education, assessment or a related field is also required. A medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent) and appropriate professional registration where applicable would be advantageous, as would Fellowship of Advance HE (or equivalent) and a Doctorate qualification.
Please read the job description and person specification for the full duties and essential criteria. Attach a personal statement explaining how your skills and experience meet the criteria in the person specification, using relevant examples.
